Rail-mounted container gantry cranes (RMG) is a specialized yard container handling machine. It can travel on rail by means of the yard power, and lift an stack containers in the yard area with the equipment of the 20' or 40' telescopic spreader (or twin-lift spreader if needed). The RMG has the advantage of being driven by electrical power, clean, bigger lifting capacity, an high gantry traveling speed with cargo. The RMG consists of lifting mechanism, trolley traversing mechanism, gantry mechanism and sway-dampening mechanism.

The lifting, gantry and trolley mechanisms are mostly equipped with AC frequency conversion control system. Normally the lifting mechanism is of the single drum type. It can also be designed to be double drum type if needed. Our corporation can design and manufacture according to demands of user.

Application Scenario

A Rail Mounted Gantry (RMG) is a specialized material handling equipment used in ports , container terminals, and intermodal yards for efficient cargo movement. RMGs are designed specifically for handling containers and heavy loads, such as pallets and bulk materials. They are powered by electricity or diesel.

RMGs are commonly used for container loading and unloading , cargo transportation within a port or terminal, and container stacking in depots or yards. They are equipped with spreader or grab attachments for secure lifting and movement of containers or other types of freight.

A Rail Mounted Gantry (RMG) is an essential piece of material handling equipment that plays a critical role in the logistics and transportation sectors, being predominantly utilized in ports,

container terminals, and intermodal yards to optimize the movement of cargo. These machines are uniquely designed to handle heavy loads, including shipping containers, pallets, and bulk

materials, making them indispensable in environments where efficiency and reliability are paramount.

The operational capabilities of RMGs allow for various functions within cargo handling. One of the primary applications is the loading and unloading of containers from ships, where RMGs

work in synergy with container ships to efficiently transfer cargo to and from the vessel. By employing advanced lifting mechanisms, RMGs securely grasp and transport containers, minimizing

the risk of damage during the transfer process.

In addition to their loading and unloading capabilities, RMGs are pivotal in facilitating cargo transportation within the port or terminal itself. Once containers are unloaded from a ship, RMGs

can swiftly move these containers to designated storage areas or intermodal transport vehicles, such as trucks or trains. This intra-terminal transfer capability significantly speeds up the

logistics chain and contributes to reducing vessel turnaround times, enhancing overall port productivity.

Furthermore, RMGs are instrumental in container stacking operations. In container depots or storage yards, RMGs efficiently stack containers in a safe and organized manner, optimizing

space utilization and enabling easy access for future shipping or retrieval. The design of RMGs allows for high stacking capabilities, which is particularly beneficial in ports where land is at

a premium.

RMGs are powered either by electricity or diesel, providing flexibility for varied operational environments. Electric-powered RMGs are advantageous for their lower environmental impact

and potential to reduce operational costs, while diesel-powered units offer robustness and reliability in locations where electrical infrastructure may be limited.

Equipped with specialized spreader or grab attachments, RMGs ensure secure lifting and movement of containers and other types of freight, adapting to different load types while

maintaining safety standards. The use of RMGs in cargo handling not only streamlines operations but also enhances the overall efficiency and effectiveness of supply chain processes in

critical logistics hubs.

In summary, Rail Mounted Gantries serve as a backbone for cargo movement in ports and terminals, offering versatile functionality for loading, unloading, transportation, and stacking of

containers, while being powered by sustainable or traditional energy sources. Their advanced design and operational efficiency make them a vital asset in modern shipping and logistics

operations.
